The demographics are daunting, and the long-term health care industry,

bracing itself, is in the throes of trying to predict what this demanding cohort will want. Buelow (health services administration, U. of South Dakota) begins by describing the long-term health care system, including assisted living, respite care, skilled nursing care and home care. She gets all kinds of stakeholders to speak for themselves, including aging seniors, front-line staff, nurses, and administrators, and compares the needs and observations they express. She then describes programs and strategies that have worked so far as a baseline from which policy makers and managers can start in their efforts to accommodate the next cohort and those who will help them.
