Early Childhood Recreation - Tot Rock. A very popular class for ages birth to 3. Finger plays and rhythm instruments. Fridays through Oct. 24, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Register at Community Recreation Center. $17.

Preplanning Eases the Pain - Lecture for ages 18 and older. Learn about funeral prearrangements, wills, trusts and much more. Register at Adult Activity Center. Presenter is Pat Chamberlain of Musgrove Family Mortuary. 1:30 p.m. Free.

Specialized Recreation - UO Volleyball Game. For ages 18 and older. Cheer the UO women's volleyball team as it takes on UCLA. Register at Community Recreation Center. 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. $6 fee. Bring $5 for admission and extra for snacks.

Saturday, Oct. 4

Volkswalking - Dayton-Heiser Farms on Grand Island. Fall walk with pumpkin patch, corn maze and farm activities. 10K rated 1-2. For ages 15 and older. Register at Adult Activity Center. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. $15.

Saturday Open Wood Shop - For ages 18 and older at Adult Activity Center. Create your woodworking projects in well equipped shop. Instruction included. 9 a.m. to noon. $5 per session.

Holy Trinity Greek Festival - A great annual celebration at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Portland. Lots of good Greek food, dancing and crafts. For ages 50 and older. Register at Adult Activity Center. 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. $31.

Specialized Recreation - Creative Arts. Make a variety of projects with friends. For ages 18 and older. Register at Community Recreation Center. 10 a.m. to noon. $8.50 for each session.

Specialized Recreation - Saturday Cooking. An afternoon of cooking, movie-watching and snacks. For ages 18 and older. Fee includes cost of meal and movie. $12.

Monday, Oct. 6

Teen Center - The center is open Monday to Friday mornings, 7:30 a.m. to 8:40 a.m., and afternoons from 3:10 p.m. to 6 p.m. For students attending Springfield middle schools. Free for most activities.

Jewelry Wire Weaving - Learn to make intricate jewelry by weaving bead wire. For ages 50 and older. Register at Adult Activity Center. Instructor is Vera Slick, jewelry artist. Beginning class 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., advanced class 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Oct. 27. $6.

What Does Your Handwriting Say? - Learn what your handwriting can tell about your personality, desires and talents. Bring a small plastic ruler and a ballpoint pen. Register at Adult Activity Center. Shallow-Water Exercise Classes - Aquatone (moderately paced) at Willamalane Park Swim Center. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. Exercise that Feels Good (slower paced) at Willamalane Park Swim Center. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Classes are ongoing. Tuesday, Oct. 7

Lapidary Shop - For ages 18 and older at Adult Activity Center. Equipped with saws, grinders, sanders and polishers. Shop staff will cut rocks. Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. $2.50 per day.

Mailing Labels - Learn to print envelopes and labels to make holiday mailing a breeze. Prior word processing experience recommended. For ages 50 and older. Register at Adult Activity Center. Today and Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. $16.

Preschool Recreation - Basketball for Little Tykes. For ages 3 to 5. Register at Community Recreation Center. Tuesdays through Oct. 28, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. $17.

Super Aerobic Combo - Aerobic dance, step aerobics, strengthening and stretching. For ages 15 and older. Register at Community Recreation Center any time during the session.
