The hiapo of Niue Island in central Polynesia were produced

in the mid- to late 19th-century and are now dispersed all over the world, primarily in museum collections. The paintings range from dynamic abstract patterns to detailed renderings of plants, people and signs of changing times, such as ships. Pule and Thomas worked on this study of hiapo for a decade, visiting museums in North America and the Pacific and talking to people in Niue about the significance of this art. Distributed in the US by ISBS.
