Brown to receive '2008 Semper Fidelis Award', the Foundation's Highest Honor, on Saturday, October 25, 2008

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Jack H. Brown, Chairman and CEO of Stater Bros. Supermarkets, will receive the "2008 Semper Fidelis Award", which is the highest

honor bestowed by the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, at the Foundation's Annual Ball on October 25th at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point. Other honored guests at the event will include Ambassador George Argyros, who was the 2007 Semper Fidelis honoree; General James F. Amos, Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps; and five Medal of Honor recipients.

Brown served in the United States Naval Reserves for six years (1956 - 1962). He was called to active duty in 1959, where he served in the Pacific Fleet, and was honorably discharged in June 1962.

Following his military service, Brown returned to the Supermarket Industry and quickly rose through the ranks. He joined Stater Bros. Supermarkets as President and Chief Executive Officer in 1981 and has been at the helm of the Company for the past 27 years.

Under Brown's leadership, Stater Bros. proudly promotes the values of America and has established a long history of support for the men and women serving in the Armed Forces. Stater Bros. is a major supporter of the Riverside National Cemetery Support Committee and was one of the lead sponsors for the cemetery's National Medal of Honor Memorial (dedicated in 1999) and the National POW/MIA Memorial (dedicated in 2005). Stater Bros. is also a major supporter of the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Medical Center in Loma Linda, California.

During every United States Military Operation, Stater Bros. protects the jobs and benefits of the Company's reservists when they are called to active duty by continuing to pay their weekly wages minus military pay as well as the medical, dental and vision benefits for their families.
