The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said yesterday that the 352 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in war-torn Chad are safe.
Quoting an embassy report, Foreign Affairs spokesman Claro Cristobal said the 352 registered OFWs working in Chad's biggest oil
"All 352 registered OFWs in the Republic of Chad are safe from the effects of strife in that country," Philippine Ambassador to Tripoli, Libya Bayani Mangibin reported to Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo.
He said that Industrial Maintenance International (IMI), the employer of the OFWs, is ready to relocate them once violence escalates in the African country.
"IMI has assured the embassy that it has means to evacuate all its workers from Chad should that be needed," Mangibin said.
The OFWs are employed by the IMI for ESSO Project, the biggest oil and gas project in Chad.
