Although recognizing that in its broadest sense diversity covers all

matters of difference and inclusion, for the purposes of this handbook Konrad (organizational behavior and women in management, U. of Western of Western Ontario, Canada), Prasad (management and liberal arts, Skidmore College, US), and Pringle (organization studies, Auckland U. of Technology, New Zealand) have chosen to have their contributors' discussion of workplace diversity focus on those differences that have been systematically discriminated against, irrespective of whether or not they receive legal protection. Seven papers discuss workplace diversity from the separate theoretical perspectives of psychology, human resources management, postcolonial theory, critical theory, post-structuralism, and ideology and discourse studies. Methodological issues considered in the next three papers include how to measure diversity and the conduct of qualitative and quantitative research. Eleven remaining contributions address "dimensions" of workplace diversity, including the intersection of sex and gender within work and organizations, race and ethnicity in organizations, ageism and national cultures, homophobia and heterosexism, the influence of disability on role- taking in organizations, class as structure and process in organizational diversity work, outcomes of appearance and obesity in organizations, trade unions and equality and diversity, and critical diversity management practice in Australia.
