Rohm Electronics Philippines, Inc., a subsidiary of Kyoto-based Rohm Co. Ltd. of Japan is expanding its production capacity to fill up the increasing demand for its semiconductor products overseas.

The company is infusing an additional P500.93 million for the production of micro chip

resistors and capacitors and large-scale integrated circuits.

Its facility is located at the People's Technology Complex in Carmona, Cavite, south of Manila. The company would spend P76.35 million for its micro chip resistors, P15 million for micro chip capacitors and P409.5 million for additional capacity of largescale integrated circuits.

The company is projecting an annual export sales of $33.8 million for its micro chip resistors, $51.79 million for micro chip capacitors and $229.76 million for its large-scale integrated circuits.

A total of 150 new jobs would be generated for the increased capacity of its micro chip production. Total employment opportunities to be generated for the additional capacity.

The parent company of Rohm Electronics is also setting up a facility in Tiajin, China through its subsidiary Rohm Electronics (Tianjin) Co. Ltd. to manufacture discrete semi-conductor products in order to meet the increasing demands in the future.

Although Rohm Electronics has focused its efforts on expanding the company's overseas production bases mainly in Southeast Asia to meet market needs, it decided to strengthen its production sites, including the new one, in Tianjin, China, because long term demand is expected to continue to grow around the world and especially in China.

The Tianjin facility plans to produce molded diodes, chip LEDs, and semiconductor lasers.

RET, relocated, will produce glass diodes, LED lamps, and transistors.

Initial investment is expected to amount to about 6 billion yen for the establishment of the production bases in China.

ROHM Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of semiconductors, also plans to make a full scale entry into the market for OEL (Organic Electro Luminescence) Displays.

OEL is expected to be the next generation of displays. ROHM has conducted research and development on OEL Displays, and has completed the first stages of producing them.
