Improved Wheel Loaders Enhance Productivity

Caterpillar recently updated the 980G Series II, 988G and 990 Series II Wheel Loaders to boost productivity, meet Tier 2 emissions requirements, and lower operating cost. The 990 II efficiently loads 50- to 70-ton-capacity trucks in the standard arrangement and 100-ton-capacity trucks in the high lift arrangement. The updated loader features increased digging forces, improved engine management, new air-to-air aftercooling for intake air, a new, more efficient cooling system, and extended engine oil change intervals. Other improvements enhance serviceability, durability and operator control and comfort.

Caterpillar has updated the 988G Wheel Loader with the new Cat 3456 engine featuring Electronic Unit Injection. Efficient fuel management makes the engine very responsive for increased productivity and low emissions. The engine delivers 475 net horsepower and 42 percent torque rise--for high lugging force during digging and for acceleration in high rimpull applications. It is an efficient loading tool for trucks in the 40- to 70-ton size class.

The Caterpillar 980G Series II Wheel Loader features a number of changes to increase efficiency and reduce costs. A more fuel-efficient engine and a new free wheel stator torque converter combine to reduce fuel cost per ton, and the Integrated Braking System reduces axle temperatures and improves transmission neutralizer smoothness.

A redesigned operator station is more comfortable, and it provides improved sight lines to the work area. The optional Caterpillar Aggregate Autodig can be fitted to the 980G II for efficient bucket loading when handling aggregates. The 980G II is designed to excel in truck or hopper loading.
