Search for dental beauty drives ceramic dental implant market.

All-ceramic dental restorations are becoming the most sought-after solutions to tooth repair. Ceramic restorations avoid the dark lines that may appear below the gum line when porcelain-fused-to-metal is used, says Millennium Research Group (MRG) in its latest report US Markets for Crown & Bridges

2008.

Dental laboratories are using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) technology to meet the increasing demand. As a result, the US market for CAD/CAM-produced all-ceramic restorations is likely to grow by more than 30% over the next five years, exceeding US$1 billion by 2012, predicts MRG.

Advantages of CAD/CAM-produced all-ceramic implants include the ability to tailor the restoration to the individual. They can also be manufactured more quickly.

"People want their teeth to look great and they don't want to wait for the results," according to MRG analyst Poonam Jassi. The fact that patients will pay a premium for rapidly produced customized crowns and bridges is supporting growth of this market segment, noted Jassi.

MRG also publishes a report on Global Markets for Dental CAD/CAM Systems 2008.
