Essel Propack builds its US presence with latest acquisition.

Essel Propack Ltd. has acquired a Minnesota-based supplier of disposable medical devices in a $1.2 million deal that gives the India-based firm a more solid presence in the US medical device market.

Essel Propack, through its US subsidiary TACPRO Inc., purchased Plymouth, MA-based Catheter

and Disposables Technology Inc. (CDT), a supplier of specialized disposable medical devices. CDT was a subsidiary of CardioTech International Inc., a Wilmington, MA-based manufacturer of cardiac and other medical devices.

Top executives from both CardioTech and TACPRO said the purchase will enable Essel to solidify its foothold in the medical device market. The company entered the medical device sector two years ago by purchasing two medical device firms--one in the United States and another in Singapore. "CDT represents an opportunity for TACPRO Inc. to expand its presence in the Midwest region," said Nitin Matani, TACPRO's president and CEO." The acquisition of CDT is the first step in achieving our strategic growth objective. We are excited at being able to extend additional resources, experience and knowledge to our current and future customers."

Essel Propack President R. Chanrasekhar said the purchase will help his firm expand its "current footprint into a new geography and broaden existing product lines."

Headquartered in Mumbai, India, Essel Propack offers specialty packaging and manufactures medical devices as well as plastic and laminated tubes. Its medical device operations are located in California and Singapore.
