Morgan is sold
WORCESTER - Morgan Construction Co., a family-owned company that has built steel rolling mills for more than a century, has been formally acquired by Siemens VAI of Austria, the companies announced. No sale price was disclosed. The sale was first announced in December. Morgan Construction will be managed as a Siemens Group company by Siemens VAI Metals Technologies of Linz, Austria. Morgan Construction had sales of $230 million last year and employs 1,100 people in the United States, China, India, Great Britain and Brazil.
Morgan Construction is a worldwide supplier of wire mill equipment for the long-product sector, and has constructed more than 500 wire, bar and billet mills in more than 40 countries.
"Combining Morgan's products and know-how with Siemens' automation competence now enables us to present one face to the customer when offering complete solutions for equipping wire mills and for manufacturing long products," said Richard Pfeiffer, chief executive officer of Siemens VAI Metals Technologies, in a news release.
Riley contract
WORCESTER - Saint-Gobain Ceramics recently signed a contract with Riley Power Inc. of Worcester to supply materials and installation services for the refractories for a new waste-to-energy unit being built in Tampa, Fla.
Refractories are high-temperature ceramic materials, and will form part of a 600-ton-per-day municipal solid waste-fired steam generator. Riley Power designs, engineers and fabricates steam generators and firing systems for a variety of liquid, gaseous and solid fuel applications.
St. Vincent grants
WORCESTER - The community benefits program at St. Vincent Hospital is seeking grant proposals for health-related projects serving vulnerable populations in the Worcester area.
The hospital reported in a news release it is particularly seeking proposals related to disease prevention, access to healthcare, prevention of infant mortality, smoking, obesity, dental care and oral health. Applicants may seek amounts up to $5,000. Applications, due April 14, are available at www.stvincenthospital.com.
Advisers expanding
WORCESTER - Legacy Financial Advisers Inc. of Milford has opened an office at 35 Harvard St., Suite 301.
The business, owned by Paul and Linda Mauro of Bolton, offers financial advice and wealth management services. The Worcester office is expected to employ 25 new associates and two senior advanced planners, Legacy reported in a news release. Legacy also has offices in Florida, New Jersey, North Carolina, California, New Mexico and Texas and several Massachusetts communities.
