BroadSoft, a provider of VoIP application software, announced that its BroadWorks VoIP application platform has been selected by Italian telecom operator Acantho

to deliver voice and multimedia services to the enterprise market in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.

Acantho delivers a broad range of premium enterprise services via Gigabit Ethernet over optical fiber starting with the Bologna, Imola, Forli-Cesena, Ravenna, Rimini and Riccione areas, now joined with Modena and Ferrara. Business users enjoy fast data transfer up to 1 Gbs, which is superior to other available access services (ISDN, ADSL, and satellite transmission). Acantho delivers all IP-based services to its customers and plans to become the premier ICT provider in its region.

"We evaluated more than 10 suppliers for our IP Centrex service," said Roberto Vancini, Chief Executive Officer at Acantho. "Apart from the obvious differences in capacity and reliability, BroadSoft stood out because we can connect any type of IP-based telephone to the BroadWorks application platform and provide a large range of overlay features such as conferencing and unified communications. We were extremely impressed by the scalability of the system and its ability to provide multi-tenant capability for thousands of enterprises."

The initial BroadWorks deployment will be over the provider's Gigabit Ethernet network. However, Acantho recently won a WiMAX license in Italy and plans to deploy the IP-Centrex service over WiMAX access in 2009. Additionally, the service will likely be enhanced with a range of mobile capabilities in the same timeframe as the WiMAX deployment.

"Acantho joins a list of over 80 operators who have deployed BroadWorks in Europe, the Middle East and Africa region," said Michael Tessler, CEO for BroadSoft. "The combination of BroadWorks and next-generation access is a powerful combination for ICT providers."
