The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) has released its updated ToxProfiles[TM] 2007 two-CD ROM set featuring information on more than 180 hazardous substances as well as an improved search engine. ToxProfiles[TM] 2007 is a useful resource for health professionals, researchers,

students, media, and others interested in the health effects from exposure to hazardous substances.

This latest edition of the ToxProfiles[TM] includes seven updated toxicological profiles including those for arsenic, lead, and benzene. Arsenic and lead are the top two toxins on the ATSDR priority list of hazardous substances.

ToxProfiles[TM] 2007 features:

* 165 toxicological profiles--the ToxProfiles[TM] offer an in-depth, peer-reviewed analysis and review of the most current information available on the toxicological and adverse health effects of exposure to hazardous substances and chemicals.

* 166 public health statements--public health statements are taken from the first chapters of their respective toxicological profiles and are written in plain language, in both English and Spanish.

* 184 ToxFAQs[TM]--ToxFAQs are easy-to-understand, two-page fact sheets and guides on specific substances. These fact sheets provide quick answers to the most frequently asked questions that deal with the environmental effects of specific chemical spills, how someone may be exposed to the chemical, and the personal health risks of the exposure. They are available in English and Spanish.

ToxProfiles[TM] 2007 also includes 13 Interaction Profiles, which provide available data on the toxicology of chemical mixtures and the joint toxic action of chemicals in a mixture. This information is used by toxicologists and other health professionals to recommend specific approaches to a potential public health hazard.
