In this study, Perchard investigates

the working lives of various categories of management personnel in the Scottish coal mining industry during the period 1930-1966. Coverage includes colliery managers' and mining professionals' pay, status, roles, relationships (with employers and employees), duties, and professional associations. Particular attention has been paid to the impact of the nationalization of colliery operations in 1947. Perchard teaches Scottish history at the U. of Strathclyde.
