FMC Idles Granger Soda Ash Production.

* FMC Corporation has discontinued trona mining and mothballed soda ash production at its Granger, WY operation. Soda ash production and mining operations at FMC's Green River Westvaco facility are not affected by this action.

"This has been a very difficult decision to make because it impacts

our employees and the Green River community," said Joe Sipia, Alkali division general manager, "but the decision was necessary to reduce our costs in what has been an underperforming business."

"We will maintain the flexibility to recommission the Granger mine and soda ash facility," Mr. Sipia added, "and it will take such action when business conditions improve and additional capacity is required."

FMC will continue to supply customers from its Westvaco soda ash operation, which will run at full capacity. Presently, FMC employs 1,138 people at its Green River and Granger operations. Approximately 120 employees across both sites will be affected by this decision. FMC will offer a special incentive package to employees who volunteer to leave the company, and hopes by doing so to avoid involuntary layoffs.
