"As a child, I went to the Oregon State Fair every summer," Hemingway says. "The traditions of such events create a unique collaboration between communities and festival-goers." In fact, nearly half of U.S. adult travelers attended a festival and/or fair during a trip in the past year, according to the Travel Industry Association of America.
"Cities across the country now host annual fairs and festivals on a grand scale," said Leslie Downey, director of Travelers Advantage and TravelersAdvantage.com. "Kid-friendly events offer one-of-a-kind art and local culinary fare, educational exhibits fuse eco-demonstrations with new age technology, and cultural get-togethers can be found among tropical gardens.
