Order for ceramic body armour worth $8.4 million.

An $8.4 million order for ceramic body armour has been received by Ceradyne Inc of Costa Mesa, California, USA. The order was placed by the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, USA. Ceradyne's body armour technology uses boron carbide, silicon carbide

and alumina materials to provide protection for vulnerable body areas. The order is for modular supplemental armour protection as part of the Ballistic Plates for Body Armour Load Carriage Systems (BALCS) to be delivered between August 2008 and February 2009.
